Meet the Team.

  • Ben Pym

    MANAGING DIRECTOR

    Prior to founding EMS in 2017, Ben’s work involved the design and installation of bespoke performance yacht systems. Ben has delivered a diverse range of projects from full systems package design, including domestic, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems, through to the design, manufacture and supply of mechanical mechanism, actuating door and platform systems, anchor cranes and custom hydraulic cylinders.

  • Phil Clark

    SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER

    Phil is our Senior Engineer and specialises in mechanical design. Much of Phil’s role at EMS is the design of custom, one off systems and prototyping. Phil’s creativity and ability to solve engineering problems is second to none. Phil’s experience prior to EMS includes the design, build and operation of crewed and un-crewed vessels within military, oil and gas, and science and survey arenas.

  • Josh Whinney

    JUNIOR ENGINEER

    Josh joined EMS as a summer (2023) placement student while studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Exeter and he has quickly become a valued member of the team Josh assists with vessel system design, where he is developing his skills in 3D modelling and drafting. Josh will continue to support EMS when he returns to university to finish his final year, working for EMS part time.

  • Matt Cherry

    SYSTEM DESIGN ENGINEER

    Matt’s area of expertise is vessel system design and integration with an extensive project portfolio including CTV’s, high latitude explorer yachts, USVs and patrol vessels. Matt has designed systems for several first in class vessels, including those with hybrid and alternative propulsion systems. Matt’s strengths lie in his attention to detail, and he excels at project management.

  • Alan Collins

    MECHANICAL ENGINEER

    With over 28 years of experience working in an R&D across multiple sectors Alan has a proven track record of bringing ideas to life, from conceptual design to development, testing and series production. Much of Alan’s role at EMS centres on the design and development of custom products and components for our customers.

  • Sarah Hickman

    OPERATIONS MANAGER

    Sarah ensures the smooth running of EMS through managing our ISO quality management system, human resources, finances and day-to-day operational needs. Previously to joining EMS Sarah was Senior Manager for a sustainability consultancy advising companies on responsible sourcing of agro-commodities.
